Wizard of Oz Wedding Inspiration

Carlos and Amber were the perfect match for Wizard of Oz . Throughout the day they were signing songs from the movie and it made the whole day amazing because they could relate to the theme. While taking photos of them,  I could definitely tell they have a bond between each other and that they truly love each other. I am so glad I was able to capture these lovely human beings in their element of love. The goal of this shoot was to represent thematic elements from the Wizard of Oz film primarily through our color and floral selections. If you are looking for a wedding photographer or have a friend that is getting married soon let's chat

Flowers were a key design detail of this photoshoot. Since the red poppies seen in the movie are not readily available (or even legal in this country I think…) we used a combination of Red Anemones with the black centers, and red, yellow, and pink Icelandic & Colibri Poppies.  I wanted to represent all the colors I associate with the film in the florals, so we had blue and white hydrangeas reminiscent of Dorothy’s dress, blush pinks in homage to Glinda, vibrant yellows, reds, and greenery in reference to scenic elements of the film.  Colors were so important for the story and film, so it was also my biggest priority in designing the photoshoot.

Our intention for the attire and accessories was to invoke art deco inspired, old Hollywood glamour. For Amber’s gown, I really wanted something blush (the gown we chose was ever so slightly pinkish-ivory) and I wanted sparkle and starbursts like those that adorn Glinda’s crown.  Our hair and makeup artist, Nina from Wedded Kiss gave Amber a stunning, Hollywood starlet inspired look with ruby red lips.

The acrylic calligraphy signs were hand painted by Folie a Deux Events with “There’s no place like home…” & “Somewhere over the rainbow…” – These were created by enlarging the calligraphy and then tracing with paint pen onto the acrylic sheet. We also used red sequin table runners as a nod to the Ruby Slippers, and lots of vintage green glassware and vases. Our goal with the decor selections was to invoke a glamorous, vintage feel with the tiniest hint of rustic, Kansas farmhouse… That was home for Dorothy after all… The eclectic decor selection helped achieve that goal.
